  • What a charming place to have a pleasant lunch!...
loveliest spot in downtown oakland, a great respite from the shopping and conventioneers, overlooking downtown skyline and yerba buena park....
Great for a quiet night out. The food is fulfilling and of course, the tea is outstanding. Especially good are the tea specials and the melty warm sandwiches....
A warm place to go to have a weel prepared healthy meal and an amazing choice of teas....
The food here is unexpectedly wonderful, despite the overwhelmingly complex menu that could take a good 20 min to read. The ginger quinoa waffles had amazing texture, and the bread pudding was divine,...

  • Location is serene, with its view over Yerba Buena Gardens to the Jewish Contemporary Museum. Tea is pricey, especially if you get the bottomless samovar option--you'd better want to drink a lot of te...
I am a big fan of the salmon egg bowl at Samovar - brown rice, soy ginger sauce, a nice chunk of smoked salmon and two perfectly poached eggs, scallions on top. So delicious. Kick back, gaze over Yerb...

  • Samovar has a new location downtown San Francisco in the Yerba Buena Gardens, the new location will have take-out and also garden seating as well as more unique dishes....

  • In Short – A serene Eastern vibe prevails at this elegant, low-key lounge with large glass walls looking out over Yerba Buena Gardens. Staff here takes tea seriously -- the extensive menu offers rare picks like 1993 cultivated menghal select leaves -- but service is as friendly and unpretentious as it comes. Light bites include tea-infused dishes like ginger tofu tea soup and green tea mousse along with curry egg salad sandwiches, edamame with toasted seaweed and rice bowls.

Teas from around the world fill up the full-page menu divided into types of tea from white and green and black to oolong, herbals and pu-erh. The names are as beautiful as the aroma that wafts up on the steam: Jasmine Snowbud, Black Peony Rosette, Water Angel. The uninitiated will appreciate the fine versions of Earl Grey, mint and Samovar's breakfast blend. A menu of sweet and savory dishes is meant to complement the teas and includes wild smoked salmon and eggs, artichoke tarts, gingerbread cake and an amazing bowl of fire-roasted Marcona almonds with vine-ripened Mojave raisins. Patrons enjoy their aromatic experience inside the greenhouse-like modern space, or outside on the patio overlooking Yerba Buena Gardens and the SFMOMA.
