As my old friend Albert used to say, 'Imagination is more important than knowledge'. And the director of Amelie most certainly had plenty of it. Enough as to make the most interesting, original, profound, complete, wonderful, intelligent and fascinating adaptation that could have ever been done, out of this lovely and heart touching story. One thing is for sure, that in some areas the superior cultural level of a nation outshines all the financial power in the world. If not so, then how could the French, with one movie, overshadow the entire prolific hollywoodian cinematography? And why do I have that feeling that they will never, ever, not in a thousand years, be able to reach this level of cinematographic perfection and create a masterpiece like Amelie? A perfect blend of romance, comedy and drama that will find its way into the deepest corners of your heart and never get out. Just when I was thinking that I will never feel the need to write a truly positive review, this movie blew me away.
